Nye du'i bu

A naked ascetic (gcer bu pa) named in the Śrīgupta Sūtra. Śrīgupta has great faith in him. He asks him to go kill Gautama, since he pretends to be omniscient... I believe the name means 'neighbor's [or acquaintance's] son.' The Sanskrit might be Jñātiputra or Bandhuputra (?).

He might have also written the immediately following work in that volume.


O rgyan kun bzang bstan 'dzin rdo rje

Daṇḍi'i me long gi 'grel ṭik chen mo dbyangs can ngag gi rol mtsho las / don rgyan so lnga'i snying po bsdus pa blo gsar bung ba rol pa'i dga' tshal du 'jug pa la nye bar mkho ba mkhas pa'i gsung las dper brjod pa legs pa'i cha 'ga' zhig bsdebs pa kun phan nyi ma'i snang ba. Oriental Institute, St. Petersburg, no. B8905/2. The date given in the colophon corresponds to the year 1909. Author's name prefaced by the 'title' 'Bras ljongs Bsam khang pa. Perhaps to be identified with U rgyan bstan 'dzin, q.v.


O rgyan pa Rin chen dpal (1230 1309)

Name often spelled U rgyan pa Rin chen dpal. He appears as translator in several Kanjur and Tanjur colophons. He was a very important lineage holder for the Karma pa school, and famous for his special teachings related to the Kālacakra Tantra: Rdo rje gsum gyi bsnyen sgrub.

Padma 'bum

Padma chos 'phel (18th early 19th cents.)

Rnying ma pa in Eastern Tibet. His gsung 'bum has been published. It isn't certain if he should be identified with the author of the Tibetan Sanskrit dictionary listed below.

Skyes rabs dpag bsam 'khri shing, Si khron mi rigs dpe skrun khang (Chengdu 1991), in 525 pages. This is an abridgement of Kṣemendra's work.

Leaves of the Heaven Tree: The Great Compassion of the Buddha, Dharma Publishing (Berkeley 1997), in 477 pages (includes index). Translated by Deborah Black under the supervision of Tarthang Tulku Rinpoche. Includes illustrations from a set of thangkas originally created by Si tu Chos kyi 'byung gnas (the entire set of 25, the 25th depicting Si tu himself, is reproduced in the Chengdu 1991 edition).
